Soul Shop Hawaii 2019 - Community and Faith Leaders | ||||||
Soul Shop Hawai'i 2019: Ministering to Suicidal Desperation is a one day training to equip community leaders, clergy, faith and lay leaders, counselors, first responders, and essentially anyone interested in learning how to effectively minister to suicidal desperation. Soul Shop is a national movement focused on helping communities develop skills for the prevention of suicide. Soul Shop has conducted hundreds of workshops throughout the United States and was hosted in Hawaiʻi in 2016 for community, church, and temple leaders of all denominations. Suicidal desperation is complex and often involves a spiritual crisis, as well as emotional distress. It is difficult for those contemplating suicide to ask for help, and that is why Soul Shop has developed techniques for recognizing people who are hurting and helping them to be heard through life-saving conversations. For Community, Clergy, and Lay Leaders: On Saturday, October 19, 2019, 9 am to 4 pm, there is a one-day Community and Faith Leaders workshop. You will learn about the primary obstacles to dealing with suicidal desperation (stigma, fear, and shame); statistics/facts about suicide; and how you can create a supportive environment while fundamentally altering the way people deal with this subject and one another. Registration includes light refreshments and bento lunch. Register today -- enrollment is limited! |
