Kumu Kahua Theatre Presents Two One-Act Comedies About Being “Out” WHAT: Black Faggot and Puzzy by Victor Rodger and Kiki WHERE: Kumu Kahua Theatre, 46 Merchant Street WHEN: March 30 – April 30, 2017 COST: $5-$25; Ticket information below INFO: 536-4441, kumukahua.org HONOLULU, HI—Kumu Kahua Theatre will present two clever and rancorous comedies in the production: Black Faggot and Puzzy . Through strong male and female voices, these poignant one-act plays allow you to eavesdrop on monologues and scenes that illustrate a broad spectrum of Pacific Islander individuals experiencing non-heterosexuality. In Black Faggot, Victor Rodger introduces us to a chaotic mix of men enduring a period of self-discovery and celebration of their sexual identity. Victor Rodger also wrote My Name is Gary Cooper, which received great acclaim when Kumu Kahua Theatre presented it to sold out houses in 2015. Black Faggot has been called “wonderfully poignant, extremely brave and often confronting” (Broadway Baby), “sharp, witty and heart-warming” (Theatreview), and “funny and heartfelt… fast and furious” (The Guardian). Written by Kiki feat. Victor Rodger, Puzzy is a coming-of-age story of a young Pacific Island woman, grappling with the reality of her sexuality and the pressure of generations of dogma. Puzzy had its world premiere at the Auckland Pride Festival in 2016. Theatreview called it “Brave, engaging and necessary.” The Auckland blog, TheatreScenes, reported, “Despite being largely a rollicking comedy, when Puzzy tackles heartfelt drama, the result is genuine and touching,” and Pantograph Punch said, “Puzzy is a show that should be seen.” Please note: These shows are intended for mature audiences only and may not be suitable for more sensitive views. The substitution “Black Fa**ot and Pu**y” may be used when referencing this production in print.
