Honey, we've all got em... Now let's USE EM (for Good & sometimes Evil!) This high energy, stretchy, fun class series, taught by guest instructor Colleen McCown of Kalalea Dance. In this class series students will be introduced to the basic skills and techniques used in hoop dance. Hoops will be provided. Class will begin with a group warm up and end with a group cool down and stretch. Students can expect to learn basic on the body and off the body hoop techniques and explore the foundations of hoop dance and the art of flow. By the end of our session, students will be able to perform a simple sequence of choreography. I hope that you will fall as madly in love with this magical prop as I have! Here's what you need to bring/wear: Please wear comfortable, form fitting clothing. Shoes optional. Bring water and a joyful, youthful spirit! CLASS DATES/TIMES: Mondays 7:30pm-8:30pm, 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9 PRICE: $75 for the 5 week series INSTRUCTOR: Colleen McCown is a Missouri native. She moved to Hawaii 10 years ago and has been dancing professionally for 8 years. Growing up, Colleen studied ballet, modern, and hip hop dance. Colleen has danced as a soloist with Iona Contemporary Dance Theatre and Cherry Blossom Cabaret. She currently captains the fire dance troupe, Kalalea (http://kalaleafire.com/) and teaches hoop dance to the youth company at Samadhi Hawaii. So let's get those hips hula-ing! Whether you're fanning the sultry fire of a red hot showgirl dying to emerge from within, interested in exploring sexiness & sexuality in performance and life (onstage or off!) or reveling in and celebrating the beauty of your form in all it's lovely iterations, this class is a perfect way to begin! A thoughtful yet engaging metamorphosis into your next exciting life adventure, this experience is perfect for EVERYONE! Perhaps you dream of dancing under the hot lights of the big stage, covered in glittering rhinestones! Maybe it's the thought of delighting your lover with a few new mysteriously gained skills, or strengthening healthy, no BS, confidence in your body, abilities and intelligence by learning new, fun and sexy skills! This class is a 5 week series which will focus on the fundamentals of classic burlesque & striptease as well as confidence, stage presence, movement, attitude and of course, fierce sexiness beyond all comprehension. We will teach you how to strut, shimmy, bump, grind, peel, seduce and MORE... All you need to do is leave your inhibitions at the door! Looking to give your Valentine a sexy surprise but tired of wearing the same old Victorias Secret stuff? Or, lookng to MAKE a unique gift for your special someone? Not satisfied with what you see online or at the mall? Hate Valentines Day with a passion unrivaled to most humans but LOOVE crafts? We've got SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR YOU!! Introducing: A DIY/Crafting/Costuming/Maker Class Series! Valentines Day Edition! In this 5-week class we'll learn to make all kinds of amazing stuff, hang out, learn, and be awesome! All while creating beautiful & useful tools (ie costume items) of the burlesque/performance trade! The focus will change each week and offer an excellent learning opportunity! Many of these skills, tips and tricks are rarely shared and very useful! This series we'll be focusing on creating hairpieces, pasties, and a bra/panty set for Valentines Day! Whether you're planning on a special show for your sweetie, need something snazzy to wear out, want to learn to make your own accessories, the ladies of CBC will help you dream it up, create it and finish it. You WILL own Valentines Day! ♥ Here's what you need to bring/wear: wear whatever makes you comfortable and happy. this is *not* a movement class; we will be seated at tables creating wonderful things. you will need to bring your own bra and panty for the 4th class (Feb 2/3). all other materials will be provided for you. CLASS DATES/TIMES: Tuesdays 6p-7:30p, 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10 PRICE: $75 for the 5 week series, $20 materials fee. (total of $95) INSTRUCTORS: Cherry Blossom Cabaret member TBD **************************************** FAQs Is there an age limit to participate in class? There is no age limit, but due to the nature and content of the class, we recommend students of the Beginning Burlesque class be 18+. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Ong King Arts Center is located at 184 N King St in Chinatown Honolulu, near the corner of King st/River St, on the 2nd floor. Free street parking is available throughout Chinatown, parking meters do not need to be fed after 6pm. Each course is designed as a series, thus students are encouraged to attend the entire 5 week course. Each class builds upon the previous one, thus it is most beneficial for all students to attend the whole series. Students can pay for classes a la carte at $17/class the day of, although we do not recommend this. Is my registration/ticket transferrable/refundable? Each class requires a minimum of 3 registered students, we reserve the right to cancel class if the minimum is not met. All sales are final; no refunds unless class is canceled. If you purchase a series and are unable to use it, you may transfer your purchase to another individual. |
