The daylong festival will be held from 10am - 4pm in the Sustainability Courtyard, featuring over 40 vendors and booths representing student groups, on-campus and non-profit organizations as well as environmental businesses. Cycle Mānoa will be having a bike sale for bikes under $100 and Student Organic Farm Training (SOFT) will have a plant sale. Local musicians will play throughout the day, with Paul Izak playing from 3pm to 4pm. Bill McKibben, renowned environmentalist, writer and founder of 350.org, will be giving a talk from 6pm to 7:30pm at the Art Auditorium, and a reception will be held prior to his talk from 4pm to 6pm at the Sustainability Courtyard. Bill McKibben’s visit and talk are organized and funded by the Dai Ho Chun Endowment and the Colleges of Arts and Sciences. The Earth Day celebration will commence with an evening concert from 7:30pm to 11pm with local favorites Mike Love and Sam Ites, Lucie Lynch, and a slam poet performance by Jenna Robinson. The Earth Day Festival at UH Mānoa is an annual tradition which promotes existing sustainability efforts on-campus and in the community to foster networking, involvement, inspiration, and a sense of momentum among student, faculty, staff, and administration in sustainability and environmental protection. |
